England batter Harry Brook is back at the top of ICC Test batting rankings as he displaces fellow England teammate Joe Root from the perch of the world number one Test batter. It is Brook’s first return to No.1 since 2024 after another solid outing with the bat.
After a valuable half-century in the first Test victory over New Zealand, Brook’s rise came. His 56 runs turned out to be the decisive factor in a low-scoring match that England won eventually. On the other hand, Root had a silent game, scoring only 1 and 8 in his two innings before dropping down to third place in the rankings.
The update also saw Australia’s Travis Head climb to second place in the Test batting rankings, scoring 158 runs across two innings. India’s Shubman Gill was another notable performer, moving up two places to eighth following his century against Afghanistan. Gill scored 126 in the innings and played a pivotal role in India’s innings-and-300-run victory.
Gus Atkinson’s marvellous performance against New Zealand at Lord’s propelled the England fast bowler into the top 10 of the bowling rankings. Atkinson, who took seven wickets in the match including five for 48 in the second innings to climb seven places to No. 10 among Test bowlers.
Atkinson’s efforts with bat and ball enabled him to leap up the all-rounder rankings from eighth into sixth place, as well.
Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed rose to No.2 on the bowling rankings following six-wicket hauls in both innings of his side’s recent ODI series against Australia. Meanwhile, another Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi too entered into the top 10 after jumping four positions to ninth with seven wickets from three matches.
17-place jump for Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana He moved up 23 spots in the ODI bowler rankings to No. 24 on the strength of a four-wicket haul against Australia at Mirpur.
